Second Life Marketplace Support Announcement
Linden Labs recently announced the beta release of the “Second Life Marketplace”, the successor to XStreet SL. SL Marketplace is a web-based shopping experience for Second Life avatars that offers enhancements to search, browsing and purchasing over XStreet SL. Once it’s released, it appears that Second Life Marketplace will phase out XStreet SL in favor of SL Marketplace as the default web-based shopping experience offered by Linden Labs.
For SL Commerce users as a group, XStreet SL sales represent about 6% of the overall sales volume recorded in the system. For many users, myself included, it is much higher. So a natural concern is “How will SL Commerce Manager work with Second Life Marketplace?”
The good news is that announcements from Linden Labs indicate that Second Life Marketplace will support the same ANS-based notification system that XStreet SL does. So once you configure your SL Marketplace account, you should automatically get new purchase notifications from SL Marketplace, just as you do today with XStreet SL.
I haven’t seen the new system, so it’s possible that a few minor tweaks will have to be made to SL Commerce before the system can be fully supported. But SL Commerce Manager will fully support the new SL Marketplace system just as soon as is practical… likely within days of the first look at the new system.
