Visit Sensor v1.10

The visit sensor that ships with the “live” version of SL Commerce Manager will be Visit Sensor 1.10.  What’s new with this release?

The primary feature is that it batches visit data for transmission to SL Commerce.  In the current version, data is sent after every avatar is detected.  In very busy sims, this can result in many, many http transactions. In extreme cases, you could exceed your parcel’s limit for http requests, although this hasn’t yet been reported.

In the new version, data is stored at the visit sensor until either a) the data buffer begins to get full or b) an internal timer cycle executes. I added a timer cycle so that visit sensors in less busy locations will still send visit data in a timely manner, even though their visit buffer may not be full.  In all cases, you’ll see visit data on the web site within five minutes after it takes place.

The existing visit sensor will continue to operate, so there’s no need to change right away.  The new version should be most attractive to very busy locations.

The sensor will be in the new product packaging, including the free trial version.  So if you’re a beta tester, you can either request one from me directly or pick up a package on release day.  You can pull the Visit Sensor out of a Trial Box, and use it with your existing beta subscription.
